The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue
Whenever a prominent prize-giving event nears, there’s always a demand for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the passions of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
- Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
